The "Show n Shine" benefit car show was like no other parking lot show we had ever been to. What made this car show unique was the tragedy behind it all and the sensless murder of an attractive 20 year old dancer named Gabrielle Mourisha Herrera of El Paso, Texas.
Gabrielle was an independent mother of two small children. Blessed with her mothers attractive features and a talent for dancing, Gabrielle decided to take a job as a dancer at Jaguars Gold Club, a local El Paso gentlemens club. It wasn't a gig she planned to do for long but it helped her pay the bills and feed her small family.
Jaguars is where Gabrielle met her boyfriend and then killer Javier Silva. The two began to date and then a relationship was born. Javier Silva soon became obsessed with Gabrielle and provoked fights with her in a jelouse rage. Javier was a controlling and jelouse man who somehow thought Gabrielle 'belonged' to him.
The arguing and constant fighting began to stress Gabrielle out, and even on her birthday there was no peace of mind. Gabrielle wanted out of the relationship so she told Javier to leave her alone. Javier would not stand to see 'his girl' slip away so easily so he lured Gabrielle to a secluded area and stabbed her 22 times. He then dumped her lifeless body in a desert and set her on fire.
News of this tragic crime hit television, the newspaper and eventually the hearts of Pachuco Car Club. Realizing that Gabrielle's grieving mother and siblings were now faced with the difficult responsibility of telling Gabrielle's two kids that their mother was gone forever, Pachucos car club decided to host a car show and raise funds for the Herrera family with the help of Jaguars and several El Paso car clubs. Money could never bring back Gabrielle but it was the only good thing left to do.
Gabrielle's mother spoke in front of a crowd about her greatly missed daughter Gabrielle. A confusing situation and alot of mixed emotions for this family and many in attendence. This was a show where one didn't know whether to smile at the sight of amazing lowriders or cry for a family who should have never been put in a situation like this.
May this serve as a reminder for us all to choose our friends more wisely. Nobody owns anybody and nobody deserves to die the way Gabrielle did.
May the family of Gabrielle Herrera find peace in their lives.
EL PASO LOWRIDER FACTS
Slow & Low Car Club was established in 1987 by founder Javier Pedroza
of El Paso Texas. This seasoned Car Club has grown and branched out into
several united
Chapters in Seattle, Austin, Houston, San Antonio and El Paso.
Slow & Low have a variety of lowriders, euros, mini trucks, SUV's, bicycles and even sports cars. The quality of their fleet of rides is vibrant and very impressive. The club stands out.
Slow & Low live by the motto:
"Unity and changing the way of low riding" This quality car
club is also known for doing well for the community and is a family style
group that requires each member maintains order by keeping sober in any
car club event.
Young people in the club are encouraged to excel in school and those
who do not are suspended from the club. Slow & Low conduct back ground
checks on all of its prospective members prior to accepting them in the
club. At least three modifications must be made to each Slow & Low
automobile.
I Remember

I remember life in the past. Pleated out 50's and a cold 40 in my hand. I was the proud owner of a sparkling 79 Cutlass that turned the domes of everyone who cared to watch.
I had a system most in my barrio referred to as the Earthquake. Crystal clear highs and heart stopping lows all pulsing out of a Kenwood receiver, 2 Kenwood mids and tweets and a pair of Rockford 12's both enclosed in a snug custom made box that took up my entire trunk.
My windows were as dark as the locs resting on the bridge of my nose. But then I made the foolish mistake of joining a street gang and then that when bricks and bottles found their way all over my pride and joy. Thats when bullets had to start flying and thats when my car stopped looking like a show car and more like a busted up clunker.
I stopped washing my roadsters so they lost their show n shine.
We live and we learn. My cars now history as well as my freedom. Prison
is my current miserable life while my only happiness comes from my memories
of lowriders.
